Privacy Policy

Loquent is a product of Opus Automations. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using Loquent (the desktop application, Chrome extension, or website), you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide and improve Loquent:

• Email Address — Collected when you create an account via Clerk authentication. Used for account management, billing, and important service communications.
• Usage Statistics — Aggregated and anonymized metrics such as word counts, transcription counts, and feature usage. These help us understand how Loquent is used and where we can improve.
• OpenAI API Key — If you provide your own API key, it is stored locally on your device (via electron-store on desktop or chrome.storage in the extension). Your API key is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

2. Audio Data

Your voice is the core of how Loquent works, and we treat it with the utmost care:

Dictation

• Audio is captured in real-time from your microphone. In cloud mode it is sent to a speech-to-text provider (see Third-Party Services below) for transcription. In offline mode it is transcribed by a model running on your own device and is never transmitted anywhere.
• Dictation audio is processed in memory and discarded once a transcription is returned. It is never stored on our servers, and we have no ability to access, replay, or retrieve it.
• When you use an offline model, a short-lived temporary audio file may be written to your own device during processing and deleted afterwards. It never leaves your machine.

Meetings

• The Meetings feature is a recorder: it deliberately saves the meeting's audio, transcript, and any summary to your own device so you can play them back later. These recordings are kept until you delete them.
• Meeting recordings are stored locally and are never uploaded to our servers. Deleting a meeting in the app deletes its audio file from your disk. In the Chrome extension, meetings are stored in the browser's private storage for the extension on your device.
• Sharing a meeting is optional. When you choose "Share", we store that meeting's title, date, length, summary and transcript text on our server so anyone with the link can read them. The audio is never uploaded. Shared pages are hidden from search engines and we count how many times they are opened. The shared copy stays until you choose "Stop sharing" or delete the meeting in the app, which removes it from our server.
• When meeting transcription runs in cloud mode, audio segments are sent to the speech-to-text provider in the same way as dictation, and summaries are generated by the AI provider listed below.
• Recording a meeting may capture other participants. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required where you live.

3. Third-Party Services

Loquent relies on the following third-party services to function:

• OpenRouter — Our cloud mode sends audio for speech-to-text and text for AI cleanup through OpenRouter, which passes it to the model's provider (for speech-to-text, Groq). Audio and text sent through OpenRouter are subject to OpenRouter's Privacy Policy and the provider's policy, such as Groq's Privacy Policy.
• Groq — Used directly only if you add your own Groq API key in the desktop app. Audio and text sent to Groq are subject to Groq's Privacy Policy.
• OpenAI — Used for speech-to-text transcription and AI text cleanup in cloud mode, including when you supply your own OpenAI API key. Audio and text sent to OpenAI are subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
• None of the above — If you switch Loquent to offline transcription and offline cleanup, no audio or text is sent to any third-party AI provider at all.
• Clerk — Handles user authentication (sign-up, sign-in, session management). Your email and authentication data are managed by Clerk and subject to Clerk's Privacy Policy.
• LemonSqueezy — Processes subscription payments for Loquent Pro. Payment details (credit card, billing address) are handled entirely by LemonSqueezy and are never stored on our servers. See LemonSqueezy's Privacy Policy.

4. Local Storage and Cookies

Loquent stores settings and preferences locally on your device:

• Desktop Application — Uses electron-store to persist settings (language preference, hotkey configuration, AI cleanup toggle, transcription history) locally on your machine.
• Chrome Extension — Uses chrome.storage.local to store extension settings, preferences, and session data.
• Website — May use standard cookies or local storage for authentication sessions and analytics.

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Loquent service.
• Manage your account and process payments.
• Send important service-related communications (e.g., billing confirmations, security alerts).
• Analyze aggregated usage patterns to improve features and performance.
• Respond to support requests and feedback.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your data is only shared with the third-party service providers listed in Section 3, strictly for the purpose of operating the Loquent service.

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Opus Automations, our users, or the public.

7. Data Retention

• Account Data — Retained for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account, all associated personal data is permanently removed from our systems.
• Usage Statistics — Aggregated and anonymized. These statistics cannot be traced back to individual users and may be retained indefinitely for analytics.
• Transcription History — Stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your transcription history. You can clear it at any time from within the app.
• Shared Meetings — Only meetings you choose to share are stored on our server (title, date, length, summary and transcript text, never audio). Each one is kept until you choose "Stop sharing" or delete the meeting in the app. If you want every shared meeting removed, for example before deleting your account, stop sharing them in the app or contact us and we will remove them.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Clerk, and minimal data collection practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data and request a copy of what we hold.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• Delete your account and all associated personal data by contacting us at team@opusautomations.com.
• Export your transcription history from the desktop application at any time.
• Withdraw Consent for any data processing by discontinuing use of the service.

10. Children's Privacy

Loquent is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

11. International Users

Loquent is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the service from outside the United States, please be aware that your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. By using Loquent, you consent to such transfers.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through in-app notifications or email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
